Optimization Through Data
Office of Learning Analytics
UNLV’s Office of Learning Analytics (OLA) is devoted to enhancing learning and decision making of all kinds through the provision of social and behavioral analytics. The OLA is housed in the College of Education (COE) and directed by Dr. Jonathan Hilpert. The OLA employs two post-doctoral scholars, one PhD student, and one masters student through internal and external funds. The OLA currently partners with the Office of Online Education (OOE), the Center for Research, Evaluation and Assessment (CREA), the Office of Instructional Technology (OIT), the College of Engineering, the College of Life Sciences, University Athletics and various community partners to carry out its mission.
Mission Statement
To enhance learning and decision-making though the provision of social and behavioral analytics.
What We Do
The mission of the OLA is to share complex forms of data in ways that can provide useful insights to improve learning and leadership. We combine learning science (educational research, assessment, and technology) and analytics (data science, statistics, visualizations) to provide descriptive, diagnostic, and predictive information to stakeholders. Our two main foci are 1) using analytics to improve decision making and personalize learning/ interventions, and 2) using analytics and predictive modeling to prevent unwanted outcomes.
Examples of ongoing projects include the development of data dashboards to inform decision making for leaders (administrators, managers, teachers, coaches, etc.); analysis of trace data from learning management systems to predict student outcomes, and evaluation of team science in large, federally funded research laboratories.

Consultation
lease contact the OLA director, Dr. Jonathan Hilpert (jonathan.hilpert@unlv.edu), if you are interested in collaborating on a project or desire consultation. The office is positioned to provide evaluation and data science support, as well as to collaborate on funded projects and contracts.
